Standard Process Introduces VF Omega-3 for Pets and The Omega-3 Index for Pets Test

9/27/2021

Palmyra, WI – (September 27, 2021) – Standard Process®, a leading whole food-based nutritional supplement company based in Wisconsin, has expanded its Standard Process Veterinary Formulas™ line by introducing VF Omega-3 to help improve the balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in dogs and cats, and by unveiling the Omega-3 Index for Pets Test to help measure omega-3 levels in the blood.

“When it comes to supporting a pet’s health, it’s hard to think of two areas that are more important than a healthy heart and a healthy central nervous system,” said Jody Griffiths, CVT and Veterinary Support Technician at Standard Process. “Remarkably, omega-3 fatty acids support both of these critical body systems — and much more.”

VF Omega-3 is formulated in-house by Standard Process scientists who are responsible for researching, developing, processing, and testing its quality. It comes in softgel form and is designed to support:

  • The pathways that regulate joint health
  • Heart health
  • Canine healthy skin and coat
  • The central nervous system
  • Brain development of puppies and kittens

VF Omega-3’s concentrations of specific fatty acids are what separates it from many fish oil products — an important area for supplementation, based on modern animal diets. VF Omega-3 delivers fatty acids derived from omega-3s such as eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), which are associated with a number of potential health benefits that include brain development of puppies and kittens, healthy heart support, and a canine’s healthy skin and coat.

In addition to VF Omega-3, Standard Process is also releasing the Omega-3 Index for Pets Test: a blood test for dogs that measures the amount of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) in red blood cells. It will be used by veterinary professionals to assess present levels, make educated recommendations for dietary adjustments, and monitor progress to promote improvement.

“Joints, skin, the immune system, and the nervous system can benefit when these important nutrients are in balance. When they’re out of balance (which is a common occurrence), animals are left vulnerable to a number of issues,” Griffiths said. “By providing a high-quality supplement and coupling it with a blood test that can reveal measurable improvement, we’re able to deliver an omega-3 optimization strategy to which many veterinary professionals did not have previous access.”

Both offerings — along with all other Standard Process Veterinary Formulas — are available for purchase by veterinary professionals at standardprocess.com
