Omega-3s are Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids (PUFAs) that play a critical role in the human body and are particularly abundant in the brain and retina. These PUFAs and their metabolites regulate a number of important body systems on a cellular level, including the cardiovascular, pulmonary, immune, nervous and endocrine systems.

Since the body does not efficiently make EPA and DHA, the recommendation for people is to consume these PUFAs at higher levels in the diet, including supplement use.

Additionally, the body needs the proper ratio of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids for good health. The current Standard American Diet is high in omega-6s and low in omega-3s up to a ratio of 20 to one, which may tip a healthy body system out of balance and allow low levels of inflammation to occur. The body also needs a higher ratio of omega-3s to omega-6s to support the resolution phase of the inflammation process.

Studies show a large portion of the U.S. population falls below the consumption recommendation of omega-3s, including all women of childbearing age. Moreover, people who eat foods that are low in PUFAs to manage health concerns, such as those with coronary artery disease, may not be getting enough omega-3s.

Olprima products offer concentrated doses of EPA and DHA when diet alone cannot provide the necessary omega-3s to keep the body in a healthy balance.

Olprima products expand the existing line of high-quality Standard Process omega-3s for foundational support. The three new products are sold in bottles containing 60 softgels each with a recommended adult dosage of two softgels per day for a duration as specified by a health care professional.
