How do the essential vitamins found in Immuplex support a healthy immune system?*

Vitamin A is involved in many important aspects of the body’s normal function, including immune system health.1Vitamin A supports the formation and differentiation of lymphocytes and helps initiate T-lymphocyte activity. Vitamin A also supports skin and mucosal cell integrity, which provides a barrier function to protect cells.2*

Adequate vitamin B6 intake is important to supporting healthy immune system function. Deficiency of vitamin B6, especially in the elderly, can impair the production of lymphocytes and interleukin-2, and this may be reversed with adequate intake of B6.3, 4 Lymphocytes are immune cells, and interleukin-2 is a cytokine in the immune system that signals cells to maintain homeostasis.5 Chronic stress has been shown to disrupt the homeostasis maintained by cytokines.6*

Both vitamin E and selenium are also important to the immune system7 and work together as antioxidant nutrients.8 Selenium has an important role in many selenoproteins that appear to support the body’s ability to resist physiological stress.9 Vitamin E in specific doses has been shown to support the T cell-mediated response known to decline in humans as aging occurs.10*

Healthy immune system response also relies on adequate zinc intake. Zinc is an essential nutrient and a required component in more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body.11*

Vitamin C is an essential nutrient with two roles in the body that are critical to support a normal immune system response. First, cells depend upon adequate amounts of vitamin C to serve as an antioxidant during both normal metabolism and in the presence of an immune system response.12 Additionally, the formation of many critical biomolecules in the body relies on the availability of proper levels of vitamin C to participate as an enzyme cofactor.13*

How do the Protomorphogen™ extracts in this product support immune system health?*

Dr. Royal Lee, founder of Standard Process, believed that animal tissue extracts supported cellular health at the level of the nucleus and provided targeted benefits for cellular function. He believed that in an unbalanced system, gland and organ extracts activated a renewed function of the normal gland. That belief is why Protomorphogen™ extracts are included in the Immuplex formulation. Dr. Lee had some beliefs about nutrition that have not yet been substantiated by science. We are investing time and resources in our research and development department at Standard Process to scientifically explore the validity of Dr. Lee’s beliefs.*

What did the Standard Process research and development team discover about Immuplex?

In a 2009 publication, Standard Process scientists reported that in T cell cultures, Immuplex reduced T cell “discussions” and calmed cell signaling. They also found that in the mix of human white blood cells, this supplement may act in an adaptogenic manner. In other words, Immuplex works with the complex immune system response instead of simply upregulating or downregulating cell signals. Cell culture is a very simplified way to study these effects and comes with serious limitations. But it does provide a starting point for future investigation and interesting hypotheses related to the underlying mechanism of action for Immuplex.*

Whole Food Nutrient Solutions

Since 1929, Standard Process has been the visionary leader in whole food nutrient solutions. We apply systems thinking to holistic nutrition that empowers practitioners to transform lives. Dedicated to the whole food philosophy of our founder, Dr. Royal Lee, our goal is to carry on his mission to provide nutrients for the body that are as close as possible to how they are found in nature.

Our products include foods that are prepared in a way that safeguards their nutritional value. The majority of these ingredients are grown locally on our certified organic farm and may require chopping, dicing, juicing, and/or drying for use in our products. The resulting whole food ingredients are then added to a formula that may include whole food extracts, animal tissue extracts and concentrates, botanicals, whole food isolates, and synthetic ingredients. These highly complex combinations contain a variety of elements designed to trigger trophic effects that support the body’s healthy balance and wellness.*
