Balance: an improved ratio of omega-3 to omega-6

The body needs a higher ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 to support the resolution phase of the inflammation process.1 Currently the Standard American Diet is high in omega-6 fatty acids and low in omega-3s, up to the ratio of 20:12 which can tip a healthy body system out of balance and allow low levels of inflammation to occur.

Omega-3s are polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) that play critical roles in the human body and are particularly abundant in the brain and retina. These PUFAs and their metabolites regulate a number of important body systems on a cellular level, including cardiovascular, pulmonary, immune, nervous3 and endocrine systems.4,5

The American Heart Association recommends eating at least two servings of 3.5 ounces of fish per week to help maintain optimal cardiovascular health. 6 While these essential fatty acids are key in helping the body to run smoothly, our bodies do not produce them efficiently, and therefore it is recommended that they be consumed at higher levels in the diet.

A full family of omega-3 oils

Standard Process offers omega-3 solutions for foundational needs as well as concentrated doses to help target condition-specific needs for a healthy body.

There are three main types of omega-3 oils: EPA, DPA and DHA, each of which play important roles in maintaining a healthy body.7,8,9 They work individually and can also be combined with more targeted ratios to address condition-specific needs. 1,10

When used at the optimal ratio and dose, concentrated DHA and/or EPA may improve specific clinical conditions in very different ways from foundational omega-3 supplementation typically used to maintain good health.
