First Pet Wellness Day Held at Standard Process Inc.

Event focused on the human and pet wellness bond

Come on buddy, you can do it! Clayton Elertson, of Ixonia, coaxes Rufus, a five-year old pug, through the agility obstacle course during the Standard Process Employee Pet Wellness event held May 4.

Standard Process Inc. hosted its first Employee Pet Wellness Event on May 4 for its employees, their families and dogs. The event highlighted the human and pet wellness bond through activities both can enjoy together. A 5K run and 1-mile walk kicked off the festivities that 98 people and 32 dogs attended. Participants also watched agility demonstrations and met with local boarding, day care and grooming vendors and professional trainers.

“For a first-time event, this was a fantastic event,” said Lisa Patefield, executive director of the Humane Society of Jefferson County. “We look forward to being a part of future Pet Wellness days at Standard Process as the event continues to grow.” The Humane Society was on hand to talk about pet adoptions, volunteer opportunities and its current capital campaign to raise funds for a new larger shelter. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s department was also on site with one of its three canine units, discussing canine patrols and giving drug-sniffing demonstrations.

Employees were encouraged to donate $20 worth of supplies for the Human Society shelter animals. Adding to the employees’ donations, Standard Process provided $500 to the Humane Society to help purchase food and warm beds for homeless animals.

In 2002, Standard Process, manufacturer of nutritional whole food supplements, launched a line of pet products specifically aimed at helping support the nutritional needs of dogs, cats and horses. The products are only sold through veterinary health care professionals
