Kale growing in test beds

The research and development department is currently researching the ability of cruciferous vegetables such as Brussels sprouts and kale increase detoxification enzymes. The in vitro model that we use consists of human liver cells that we treat with extracts from cruciferous vegetables that we collect from the farm, or extracts that we get from the products themselves. Using an enzyme activity assay and Real-Time PCR to measure the RNA levels of the detoxification enzymes, we have demonstrated that kale, Brussels sprouts, and Cruciferous Complete all increase detoxification enzyme levels in our in vitro model using human liver cells. This research assures that Standard Process products are made from high quality ingredients that retain expected biological activity throughout our manufacturing process.
